The View from Riverview Cemetery

Strasburg, Virginia

Tuesday Treasures.

In Memory of Peter Stover
Founder of the town of Strasburg
In the year of 1749.

Sponsored by the U.D.C.

UDC stands for United Daughters of the Confederacy. They erected numerous memorials in the first half of the 20th century.

Stover was born Petrus Stauffer in Germany in 1715. His parents immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1718. Peter came to the Shenandoah Valley in 1739.

The cemetery has a view of Signal Knob at the end of the Massanutten Range.

Here's a brick monument with a plaque.

"Lest We Forget!"
In memory of Our departed Comrades
May they rest in peace.
American Legion.

Shenandoah Post 77
Strasburg, Virginia."

From the cemetery we can see the town high school and this farm, which we once visited on a local tour.

  4. Glad to see memorials for all those lost, which includes those who probably didn't get big monuments, but did live big lives.
