Deer with Fawns and Charlie’s Week

Can you see the baby deer?

Hi, it’s Charlie the beagle! I got a new leash and a light vest for summer.

Here’s my friend Tripod. I was out for a walk and heard a meow. Tripod wanted to say hello.

We got our deck painted. The gate is not back up yet, so I have to stay on the lead.

Look what I saw next door! It’s a groundhog, but some people call it a woodchuck or a whistle pig.

One day my sister Lynn came to see me and brought a friend. We all had hamburgers!

Today we went to a history thing and saw some horses. I was not very scared because I was with Mom and Miss Deborah and Mr. Frank.

Some men were dressed as dragoons, which is not the same as dragons. It means soldiers with horses.

I met a nice dog named Tigger.

Those are the highlights of my week. I also went to the vet and got my shots. I was glad to go back home.

Charlie’s Mid-June Adventures

Hi, I had a busy week. Here I am at Seven Bends State Park. It’s a good place to go on a hot day because there’s shade and a river.

Look who I saw on my neighbor’s deck! Why can cats just go wherever they want?

Here we are waiting in the car for our grocery order to be brought out. It is too hot for me to stay in the car while Mom goes in the store. Sometimes she has stuff delivered to our house from Walmart, but Martin’s will not bring it that far so we had to pick it up.

Since we were in Front Royal, we went to the mountains there. I like smelling the air in Shenandoah National Park.

We took a short hike on the Appalachian Trail. It was rocky and we did not walk very far. Mom said I might make her trip on the rocks.

While we were in the car, we saw a deer. We also saw a bear, but she did not get a picture.

I visited Sadie a few times this week. She has nice toys.

Miss Deborah bought Sadie a dog stroller. I did not like it at all. Dogs do not belong in a contraption like that.

Now it’s time for me to go to bed. Mom wants to use the computer.

The Best Photo I Couldn’t Take

When I was on Skyline Drive with Charlie a few days ago, a bear crossed the road in front of us. By the time I stopped the car and got ready to take a picture, he was disappearing into the woods. That’s okay because I’ve taken pictures of a bear crossing the road before. [See this post and this.]

It reminded me of the time I missed a great picture of a bear that appeared out of the fog. The fog (actually a cloud covering the mountaintop), was so thick that it was dangerous to stop on the winding road because if another car had come around the bend, the driver would not have seen my car in time.

Well, this bear was awesome because it was lumbering along the top of a stone wall, and seemed to just materialize out of the fog. What a moody picture that would have been!

Today I decided to re-create the scene using StarryAI. I uploaded a photo of one of Skyline Drive’s iconic stone walls and asked the app to add a bear walking on it in thick fog. It took several tries and revisions before I got anything that resembled what I saw. Even then, I cropped and refined the two best images in the IOS photos app. Here are final versions that I chose.

Goat Pictures and a Short Report

Hi, it’s Charlie! I don’t have many pictures to show today because I didn’t have as many adventures this week. The goats are from a few weeks ago.

Mom has already told you that we went to Edinburg Park. We took a short walk and put some books in the little box next to the playground.

I stayed at daycare twice this week, and I visited Sadie a few times. She thinks she’s my girlfriend.

Here’s a squirrel. Today one started to creep onto our deck when I was napping in the shade. As soon as I looked at it, it ran away.

Here I am waiting on the grass for Miss Deborah to come and go for a walk. I’m always glad to see her.

That’s all I have to report right now. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

End of May Critter Report

Hi, it's Charlie! Let's start with a fancy picture of me.

And here’s the gray cat who lives with Tripod, but isn’t friendly. We went out our door for a walk, and the cat was sitting on our sidewalk. Usually it goes away, but this time it just sat there and stared at me. It’s kind of scary.

Sometimes I sit on the back deck with Mom. We see birds, but they fly off as soon as they see me.

This week we went to the state park two times. There was extra water in the river from all the rain that we had.

I got to play with Sadie this week, and we went for walks too!

Today Mom took me to several parks. We started with the county park, so that I could take a walk.

Then we went to Shenandoah National Park. It’s farther away, and on a mountain.

I saw some pretty dogs there, but we did not get to play.

On the way home, we saw some geese in a pond. I was really hungry when we got home because it was past my dinner time.

Charlie’s Sunny and Rainy Week

Hello, I’m Charlie the beagle!

The week started out very hot. Our sidewalk and street got too hot to walk on. I went to Seven Bends State Park with Mom and walked down to the water. The river was very low.

Mom says don’t touch that plant with the purple spots on the stem because it’s poisonous! It didn’t smell interesting so I didn’t sniff it.

Well, one day the weather changed. Wind blew and rain came. The rain stayed for days. It was cold!  We were able to walk on our sidewalk again, except where the barricades are. They’re not on our driveway anymore, though. We can park in the garage again. Our neighbor has to park her truck on the street now. I checked it out.

Late yesterday, the rain let up for a while, and we walked around outside. I saw my cat friend, Tripod.

I stayed home more this week because of the weather. I did get to play with Sadie. One day I spent the whole day at her house.

Sadie can bark loud and high! I don’t do that, but I can yodel really loud!

Some of you liked the horse I showed last week, so here is a close-up. It came up to the fence. They eat all the time.

I think it’s bedtime. Good night!
