The Good: This farm house is the oldest standing wood structure in West Virginia. It was built in the late 1740's in what is now Jefferson County, West Virginia. Peter Burr was a farmer from Connecticut.
The modest buildings eventually fell into disrepair. In 1998, Jefferson County Historic Landmarks began restoring the house.
The Random: A reproduction of a barn from that that era has been built.
Incidentally, Peter Burr's brother was the father of Aaron Burr, who became infamous as the man who shot Alexander Hamilton.
The Fun: A crafts festival took place there on Saturday. Even though a light rain was falling, there were plenty of vendors, some living history actors in period dress, and musical entertainment.
Farm house looks small and cute:)
ReplyDelete...what a wonderful log barn, it's something that is rare here. It's nice to see. Thanks Linda for stopping by, please come again.

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this interesting site (and its history) with us.
ReplyDeleteThis really IS a treasure, seeing the oldest building in West Virginia! Though small, it still has a porch, too! I love the steep tin roof. The craft Festival would have been so much fun!! Did you buy anything?
ReplyDeleteOne note card from an artist. I've found that greeting cards are now so expensive in the stores, I can get them at the same price from an artist!
DeleteWhat a wonderful visit, great pics!
ReplyDeleteI do like that barn.
ReplyDeleteGreat seeing your photographs.
All the best Jan
I am imagining hearing the rain hit the roof on that farmhouse. Looks like it was a fun day.
