Prospect Peak and Cacapon

Near Berkeley Springs, WV

When we went to Berkeley Springs on Sunday and visited Frog Valley Artisans, we were very close to the spectacular viewpoint at Prospect Peak, so of course I drove up there. I've shared pictures of it before, but it's worth revisiting.

We made a couple stops in the town of Berkeley Springs, and then headed in the direction of home, stopping briefly at Cacapon State Park, where I walked Charlie in a pretty setting next to the lake.

Ducks and a Heron

The Wild Bird Wednesday linkup features from some enjoyable bird photos, so I continue to participate even though my bird pictures are ordinary compared to many of the others. I’ve just started feeding birds for this season by putting out some suet. I hope to get some close-up shots before long. (I don’t have much luck getting close to birds in the wild, so I bribe them to come to my deck.)

In the meantime, here are some mallard ducks on a pond, followed by a heron that I just happened to spot as I crossed a bridge.

Mosaic Style Mural at the Ice House

Berkeley Springs, WV

Students recently completed this mural on the side of the Ice House Art Center. An article in the Morgan Messenger explains how the students carried out the project from cutting the tiles through glazing them.

Monday Murals / Blue Monday / Mosaics

I saw this yesterday. I could not get a straight shot of the entire work because a car was parked in the way.

As usual, there were nice art pieces inside the gallery.

Art Show, Grace in the Plains

The annual Piedmont Regional Art Show is one of my favorites because it is in a lovely venue. This was a busy weekend, with a meeting at our state park yesterday morning, but I managed to make it to the Piedmont show yesterday afternoon and one in Berkeley Springs today.

Here’s a few pictures of yesterday‘s art show and be lovely church where it’s held.

For pictures of the church interior, see my 2017 post.

East Side Critters

East of Downtown Woodstock

I read that Shenandoah County has approximately 33,000 cattle.

I have no idea how many dogs there are.

West of Woodstock Yesterday

After I took Charlie to the Fairview Dog Park, I drove west to contribute a few items to a blessing box outside a church. Their  parking lot has nice views.

The late afternoon light was looking nice, so I took it a different road home in order to check out some farm views.

This place had horses so I pulled over to take a few pictures with my cell phone. I snapped them quickly because I was blocking someone’s driveway. It wasn’t until later when I enlarged the images on my iPad that I saw I had photographed a hot air balloon in the sky.

I’ll throw in a picture of Charlie running at the park and a couple more scenes from the drive home.

Stony Creek, Edinburg Mill

Shenandoah County, Virginia

The mill parking lot is a reliable spot for seeing mallard ducks. You can walk down to the creek to take a closer look. It’s an enchanting spot.

I recall being impressed the first time I saw this mill over 30 years ago. It did not have the flood wall then.

The mill was built by George Grandstaff in 1848 in to grind wheat and corn into flour.

I Found Where the Potomac Begins

Fairfax Stone State Park
Thomas, WV

Tuesday Treasures / Wordless

The Fairfax Stone, marking the Potomac's headwaters, was a corner of Lord Fairfax's vast estate. The line of 1736 was checked in 1746 by a survey on which Peter Jefferson, father of Thomas Jefferson, was engaged.

Mural and Carved Bears

Davis, WV

Monday Murals

This mural is on a glass blowing shop near the Corridor H exit. It looks like they also sell carved bears.
