Prescribed Fire at Wolf Gap

Smoke on the mountain! I knew what it was because I had seen an announcement that the forest service was going to do a prescribed burn at Wolf Gap.

Yesterday I was driving home from recycling coupled with Charlie’s afternoon outing, and I could see the smoke from Woodstock.  I decided to take a closer look, so I drove out to St. Luke.

Let’s go west just a little ways and take another look.

I discovered some back roads that I had not driven before, and saw some nice farms. I’ll study the map and go back again to explore.

  1. We are starting to have some 'burn offs' here as well. They are often called 'controlled burns' or 'fuel reduction burns'. Both my wife and I commented on the number of fallen leaves in our garden yesterday - so it must be early autumn rather than late summer I suppose!

  2. I guess this is the same as what we call "back burning".

  6. It is beautiful country out there. Back roads are fun to explore and I hope you can do it again soon. In New York, we are in a prohibited burn time of the year. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  8. We have low humidity and drought in our mountains of NC, so high wild-fire alerts are out…no burning at this point.

  10. It’s wonderful to take these back roads. You never know what’s around the next turn. Beautiful scenery and the smoky ones are pretty too. Good to know it was a controlled burn.

  11. We have been so dry on Colorado thios year that a lot of presribed burns had to be postponed. I also love taking the more scenic backroads.
