Smoke on the mountain! I knew what it was because I had seen an announcement that the forest service was going to do a prescribed burn at Wolf Gap.
Yesterday I was driving home from recycling coupled with Charlie’s afternoon outing, and I could see the smoke from Woodstock. I decided to take a closer look, so I drove out to St. Luke.

We are starting to have some 'burn offs' here as well. They are often called 'controlled burns' or 'fuel reduction burns'. Both my wife and I commented on the number of fallen leaves in our garden yesterday - so it must be early autumn rather than late summer I suppose!

I guess this is the same as what we call "back burning".
ReplyDelete...finding a new backroad is a treat!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like pretty countryside. Glad it was just a prescribed burn!
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty shots.
ReplyDeleteI've been living here for 30 years and still discovering back roads I've never driven before.

Interesting to see.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful country out there. Back roads are fun to explore and I hope you can do it again soon. In New York, we are in a prohibited burn time of the year. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteAwesome views, great clicks.
ReplyDeleteI like taking the backroads, beautiful views and scenery! Take care, have a great day and a happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe have low humidity and drought in our mountains of NC, so high wild-fire alerts are out…no burning at this point.
ReplyDeleteControlled burns sometimes get out of control!
ReplyDeleteIt’s wonderful to take these back roads. You never know what’s around the next turn. Beautiful scenery and the smoky ones are pretty too. Good to know it was a controlled burn.
ReplyDeleteWe have been so dry on Colorado thios year that a lot of presribed burns had to be postponed. I also love taking the more scenic backroads.
ReplyDeleteThat looks lovely countryside. So pleased that smoke was a controlled burn.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
