Summer’s End

🎼 “Summer's end's around the bend just flying
The swimming suits are on the line just drying…
— John Prine

We are officially in a drought. My town has mandated water conservation measures, as have other places in the Shenandoah Valley. Well, at least the high temperatures will abate now that September is here.

Farmers, of course, are affected by drought. Some early crops got harvested, but others did not thrive. The creeks and rivers are low. There are mats of algae in the North Fork.

Charlie was with me when I took those pictures last month. The water is even lower now.

I’ll post one more picture of Charlie for his fans. I used in oil paint filter in BeCasso for the pet art linkup.

  2. Cute photos, and I see Charlie is ever adorable. Nice effects! Sorry to hear about the drought. Farmers rely so much on the weather. Our relatives in ND often talk about the snow melts helping (or hindering if they get too much for the spring). Hoping harvesting will prove fruitful for them this year).

  4. Normal hydrology seems to be a thing of the past - drought here, floods there. On a massive scale too.

  6. we have been to multiple counties all over VA lately, looking for land and whatnot ...the state is hurting ...rain wise ...so sad. we get rain just not enough to ease the dry grass, trees and flowers. so waiting ... rain dance? or what is a person to do? i worry about fires ...we have seen lots going on near Elkton the past 2 weekends when visiting over there. u take care. stay cool. we had 2 days of less humidity and had the windows open. now the AC is back on ...'cause going to high of 90's ... wild changes. bye for now. 7. Oh, Linda, I'm sorry for you all, that's a bad situation, the same we lived last Summer until the heavy rains of a few days ago. We had water restrained in our homes, we were forbidden to water our gardens, so many trees in the woodsare dried. Actually, we are used to have and use awater in our homes and don't even imagine how much it is essential to us until we live such situations.
In the hope that rain will come soon to restore everything,
    I hug you wholeheartedly

  11. I'm so sorry about the drought -- it's so weird about water, everyplace seems to have either too much or not enough, it never balances out. Charlie is always happy no matter what. We all need some of that!
