Sunflower Art and Busts

Warehouse Gallery, Luray

Right now we all know why sunflowers are so popular, but for someone who happens upon this post ten years from now, I will explain. The sunflower is a symbol of Ukraine, a country currently under attack by Putin’s Russia. People in the free world feel sympathy for the Ukrainian people and wish to show solidarity with them.

Several sculptures of head and shoulder portraits were displayed in the gallery. I decided to photograph them using portrait mode on my iPhone.

  1. I can’t look at a sunflower and not think of what the Ukrainian people are going through right now. I have always loved the sunflower but see them in a different light. Yours are beautiful and I like your portrait mode photos very much.

  4. It is quite sad that, as is the nature of the news cycle these days, Ukraine is no longer the top story on most newscasts, yet the destruction of the country and its people continues. Having watched the January 6 hearing yesterday, I was sickened by Trump and his sycophants. Clearly Trump has the potential to be a Putin and I shudder to think that he could be re-elected.
