Frontline Heroes, Capon Bridge

This mural in Capon Bridge is on the side of a car wash.

“Thank you, Frontline Heroes “

Church Post #475: Across the street is a Methodist church.

Across busy US 50 is a community center that was once a presbyterian church.

Route 50 is also known as the Northwestern Turnpike. A sign next to a bank tells the story of this road, which has not been a toll road in many years.

"In 1784, Washington proposed the Northwestern Turnpike as an all-Virginia route to the Ohio. Authorized in 1827 and started in 1831, it remains a monument to the skill of its engineers, Charles Shaw and Colonel Claudius Crozet."

(In George Washington's time, West Virginia was still part of Virginia.)

  3. Great mural! We drove near there recently heading towards Pennsylvania, but I guess I was looking the wrong direction-- or maybe I was driving. So many murals, so little time!

  4. I was a bit confused, Linda. Usually you are the last person to share your mural. This is a real gem. We have a lot of these front line workers to be thankful for.

Nice to learn a bit of history of US 50, too.

    1. Yes, I had a church to show for Sunday and the buildings were near each other, so I combined the pictures into one post.

  5. Wonderful mural which reminds everyone of who kept us going for the last 2 years. The little church that's a community center is a great way to save a building.
