The Inn at Little Washington is said to be the best restaurant in the region and has won multiple awards. It is very expensive and I have never eaten there. 

It has received top ratings from AAA, the Mobil Travel Guide, the Michelin Guide, the James Beard Foundation, Travel and Leisure, Wine Spectator, and more. 

A sign across the street tells us that the main building dates to 1895, when it was a carriage house with a dance hall above it. It served as a gas station in the 1940's, and then as an antique shop, at which point the porticos were added. It became a country store and in 1978, "Patrick O'Connell and Reinhardt Lynch rented half of the downstairs of the building for $200 a month and created the Inn at Little Washington. They purchased the entire building and the junkyard next to it in 1979."

The sign goes on to mention some of the awards it has won for both food and lodging. The Inn has expanded to other buildings.

The gardens were featured as part of Rappahannock County Farm Tour last weekend. The town of Washington was established in 1796, several years before the larger city of Washington existed. 

The statue with a straw hat stands in the vegetable garden.
