The Funkhouser Farm in Hardy County

I went back in my photo files to find these unused pictures from four years ago. The Funkhouser Farm in Baker is rarely open to the public but it will be open again on September 25th as part of Heritage Weekend.

Tuesday Treasures

The log home was built around 1845 by Henry Funkhouser.  The front porch was enclosed around 1900.

The property is on the National Register of Historic Places and is still owned by members of the Funkhouser family.

  2. It is remarkable that the property has remained in the family for so many years. Here in Ontario if a farm has been owned by subsequent generations of the original owner it receives the designation "Century Farm" and a suitable plaque is mounted.

This farm is truly amazing and extraordinarily well preserved and cared, it seems that a family is still living there.

  7. How lovely to see such a beautiful little farm. And nice to know it's been kept in the family. I wonder - is it still a working farm?
