A Chesapeake Mural in Herndon

By the time I got to Herndon, it was raining. I was going to MOM's Organic Market and my plan was to also document one of the town's murals. After I shopped, the rain was still coming down, but I had a rain hat and coat, so I drove down Elden Street and stopped at this mural.

The seats in front of it are for a restaurant but no one was eating outside today (for obvious reasons). I walked the length of the mural. It is in an alley so one shot does not show all the sections clearly. Tonight I put my favorite parts of the mural into a collage.

Monday Murals and Mosaic Monday.
I found an article from 2012 which states the mural was the work of retired high school teacher Keith Naquin.  The adjacent businesses have changed since then. You can view this mural from Sully's Pour House.

  1. ...taking pictures in the rain, if you can keep your camera dry is a great way to eliminate shadows. Your pictures turned out well.

  4. The clouds at the top of the mural are painted in a really neat way — I like that there is no frame at the top of the painting. Very nice mural, and you are dedicated to keep taking photos in the rain.

  6. It's a gorgeous mural Linda, I love that the mural depicts exactly the opposite weather to what you experienced at that moment 😉

  7. The mural is great and you used your own artistry to put together that great mosaic.... that is such a good idea, because murals are often so difficult to photograph.

  8. I like your collage. It honors the very cool mural. There's a mural in an alley in our town just like that one. The restaurant across from it managed to build its patio into 3/4 of the alley so people can't see the full effect. I have a photo of the mural before that happened, so one of these days I'm going to copycat you and make a collage. :-)

  10. Great shot of big mural. I wonder if a "panorama" shot like I get with my phone camera could capture the whole thing. I am amazed how it sometimes works...and sometimes doesn't. Your solution with the mosaic was a good idea!
