Contrast and Colors in Autumn

1. Late October is a time of photo opportunities, so I'm posting a few extra pictures today. Otherwise I will fall far behind, because I am taking even more pictures than usual.
Black and White Weekend and Skywatch.
2. Until this week, foliage was mostly green, but we were treated to clear, crisp afternoons and long shadows.
Fences Around the World.
3. Then we had cool nights and some extra rain. Suddenly many trees turned yellow and a few turned red. Here we see the late afternoon sun yesterday lighting up the top of the Massanutten Range.

4. For miles around, folks want to know "Have the colors changed along Skyline Drive?" Yes, they have! But it will be crowded on weekends, so arrive early. Better yet, come during the week.

5. On the day that I took that photo from Skyline Drive, we exited the drive at Route 211 and drove down through Sperryville. I needed to get out and stretch so I pulled into a county park. The pollinator garden still had some flowers blooming.

Floral Friday and Friday Bliss.

6. Yesterday we needed to go to the landfill in Bentonville, so I figured why not drive to Luray and return via Fort Valley. I stopped at the boat landing at Egypt Bend to take a look at the South Fork of the Shenandoah. It was placid with plenty of reflections. This shot came out looking like a Rorschach test!

It was hard picking just one scene from the many that I shot, so here are two more.

Have a good weekend!

  4. ...this week I was out taking fall color shots and the long shots just didn't look as vivid as my eye saw them. It's hard to beat fall colors reflected on water! Thanks Linda for sharing, I hope that you are enjoying your weekend.
