Random August Diversions.

The Good: Flowers are doing well in our area because we've had adequate rain. Well, sometimes we got a lot more rain than we need, but that's better than drought.
Sharing with Floral Bliss.

The Random: This is among the few things I inherited from my grandfather. His mother was a collector of many things, and this framed remembrance honors Pope Leo XIII, who died in 1903. On it is written "To Mrs. D. Harry Hammer, with my best wishes, John T. McCutcheon."

McCutcheon was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American newspaper political cartoonist, so I'm counting this as a treasure.

The Fun: A mother and children are cooling off in the Shenandoah River when a turning jet ski startles the kids. Don't worry, they recovered in a matter of seconds.

  4. I agree, more rain is easier to live with than a sought. Thanks for permission to use your cartoon...it's cute and will give some light-heartedness to my post coming up Fri about photos of photographers.

  6. Aqui as chuvas não cessam, atrapalhando minha reforma.
É muita água, nunca vi isso no nosso inverno que é bem mais seco. Amo girassóis, mas esse ano não deu para plantar, apodrecem todas as sementas largadas na terra.

  9. The sunflowers are a cheerful sign of high Summer. A farm here is growing them in quantity very successfully, I guess for sunflower oil, which is unusual for the UK, but with the heatwave and weeks of sun and no rain it might be the way to go in the future if our climate gets hotter in the Summer months. Wishing you a good day!
