The Good: I spotted this colorful mural in Harrisonburg. It's on the rear wall of
Our Community Place, which provides services and work opportunities to persons in need.
The Random: The Appalachian Trail passes through Pinnacles Picnic Area on Skyline Drive. I asked a pair of lean and tan hikers how far they were walking. "To Maine."
Not surprising. I've run into through-hikers before. They follow the trail from Georgia to Maine, if they make it that far. It's too strenuous for the average person since it's mostly up and down mountains and runs around 2,200 miles.
The Fun: Hiking the trail is fun for the fit and hardy, but the rest of us can still enjoy the mountains. The easy way is to drive along Skyline Drive and stop at the overlooks. There are some beautiful views!
Wow. A 2200 mile hike is quite the undertaking. Good for them! Lovely scenery in your photos today. Murals are fun, too.
ReplyDeleteNow there's a challenge 2,200 miles! I can see why people are tempted it's a beautiful part of the world to explore!

Beautiful mural!
ReplyDelete2,200 miles breath taking trials to walk on them. Adventures people love to take this challenge. It would be a wonderful time to walk through these trails.
There are many things in the world to get explored:)
Love the mural! We walked two miles on the Appalachian Trail right behind Bi Meadows Lodge. That is about as far as we got :)
ReplyDeleteHello, I am impressed by the people who can hike the AT, we have done little parts of it. I love the mural. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I hear the Appalachian Trail mentioned I instantly think of two things - Bill Bryson's book A Walk in the Woods and a trip down Skyline Drive that the SP & I took in an RV in the '90's. Both very enjoyable memories.
ReplyDeleteNice mural Linda and how wonderful that the Community Centre helps people in need.
ReplyDeleteThat trail looks great, but very long...
You have to admire the intrepid souls who are able to make the entire 2,200 mile hike and be a little envious that they have that much free time.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous mural.... AND--I love driving on Skyline Drive and enjoying the views.... PERFECT...
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
That's serious commitment to have a go at the whole trail all at once.
ReplyDeleteLove the mural. Just met a young woman who graduated college and started the AT, only to have injury. She has no idea what she's going to do with the rest of her summer that was going to be a hike. I hiked about 1/2 mile at Clingman's Dome in the Smokies. Now I love driving the Blue Ridge Parkway (which hooks into the S in Virginia.)
ReplyDeleteI have a friend hiking it this summer. He's on day 100. It must be so dreadfully hot right now.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scenery! Skyline Drive is awesome. I haven't been there for quite a while, but I did enjoy it last time I was there.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine hiking that far! I'd have to stay at a nice pub every night and spend a few months doing it! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who hiked the trail. Quite an accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteThe mural is so appropriate for its building … I like that it ends in a cul-de-sac with children and people playing outside. We all should do more of that!
