Mercy Randoms

My older daughter went in the hospital for surgery on Wednesday and was released on Saturday. I'm using a few related photos for today's Random-osity Post.

The Good: This statue to Catherine McAuley stands in front of a building at the Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. McAuley Plaza there was named for her. She founded the Sisters of Mercy in 1831, and it still exists as a Catholic Charitable organization involved in education and health care.

The Random: Here are two murals that are high on the walls above a coffee shop at Mercy Medical Center. A sign reminds us that "Every Human Being is Like Oneself, Neighbor to Every Other Human Being."

The Fun: Lynn's friends organized a relay system to get her home, since she lives almost four hours from Baltimore. Teresa and Bruce picked her up at the hospital and brought her to my house. Barb picked her up here and took her the rest of the way home.

It was fun seeing Teresa and Bruce (right) after many years. Lynn was friends with them when we lived in Alexandria, and I hadn't seen them in decades!

  4. Sorry to read about your daughter's need for surgery. I hope she is OK now.

In West Hartford, I live just two blocks from a large Sisters of Mercy campus that used to house a home for nuns and a nursing home. The home for nuns is now gone, but the nursing home and a related assisted living community is expanding and thriving. The assisted living place is called The McAuley.
