Curving Pathways

In the first picture I was capturing an "S" curve, a compositional element said to give a sense of movement to an image. Sometimes I wonder if following known rules of composition isn't a little trite! Well, the shadows on the path kind of break it up in a way I hope is interesting.

In the second picture I was capturing spring flowers and the path was more incidental.
