A Visit to Bridgewater

north riverYesterday after voting we drove south on 42 to Bridgewater, VA to visit a museum. First we stopped at a pretty park along the North River. It was too chilly to stay outside very long.

So we went on to the museum at Bridgewater College. I had read in the paper that they had a temporary exhibit of Howdy Doody memorabilia, which was amusing to us since we had both been fans of that program as children.

Some trivia from the exhibit:
  • Clarabell the clown was played by Bob Keeshan who later became Captain Kangaroo.

  • A character named Chief Thunderthud introduced the enduring expression "Kowabonga."

  • An actress named Judy Tyler played Princess Summerfall Winterspring.. She later co-starred in Jailhouse Rock with Elvis Presley, but unfortunately died in an auto accident shortly after filming was completed.
