On the Grounds of Wayfarers Chapel

Frank likes to visit Wayfarers Chapel whenever he travels to Palos Verdes. When we stopped by there on Saturday, the chapel was closed to the public because a wedding was being held, so we had to content ourselves with wandering the gardens.

"Pause for a moment, Wayfarer, on life's journey.
Let these waters restore your soul and nourish your inner being."

Above we see some engraved bricks in the Walk of Honor. One is dedicated to the memory of Frank's mother, Thelma Canuti W.

Left: View looking toward the Pacific. Yes, that's the Goodyear Blimp.

Return to Wayfarers Chapel

Frank's favorite place in California is Wayfarers Chapel. Situated on a bluff on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, this inspiring building is an extremely popular spot for weddings. I've posted photos of it previously.

I've posted pictures before of this beautiful chapel previously. It's one of Frank's favorite places.

Outside Wayfarers Chapel

“I wanted particularly to allow those trees and those trunks to be seen and the space beyond and into infinity to be observed, so those who sat in the sanctuary would perceive the grandeur of space out beyond and around them.” — Lloyd Wright, Architect

A Glass Chapel in Palos Verdes

When we visited Wayfarers Chapel in California, I made several short video clips using my digital camera. I combined four of them using iMovie so that you can get an idea of what it's like.

The chapel is used as a church by a Swedenborgian congregation. It is also a popular tourist attraction.

Inside Wayfarers Chapel

Wayfarers Chapel is a small church but is very popular for weddings because of it's charming design and lovely location.

During the week it's often quiet enough that you can sit down in one of the pews and meditate or just enjoy the atmosphere.

Light and Shade at Wayfarers

Wayfarers Chapel was designed by architect Lloyd Wright, son of Frank Lloyd Wright. Not only is the chapel stunning, the grounds are delightfully landscaped. Since this is Southern California, there are flowers and greenery everywhere. There are spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean far below.

Overlooking the Pacific

Here we see a bird-of-paradise flower and a view of the Pacific Coast seen from the grounds of Wayfarers Chapel. And below, taken from a few steps back, is a photo that Frank took of me.

Images of Wayfarers Chapel

Frank loves this elegant little church in Rancho Palos Verdes. He visits it every time we go to southern California, usually twice. (See pictures from last year's visit.)

The chapel was designed by Lloyd Wright, son of Frank Lloyd Wright. It is a popular site for weddings.

Since a single image doesn't do it justice, I made a little video tour of the interior.
