Cabins at Lost River State Park

Mathias, WV

Lost River State Park was the site of Camp Hardy from 1935 to 1940. It was a CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) camp, providing jobs and training to young men while also facilitating the building of parks and rural infrastructure.

Photo #4 shows a spring house. Although maintained and restored over the years, this looks just like it did in the Camp Hardy days.

  2. ...I did business with a nursery owner in NC and remarked to him that I like the log cabins in the area. And he said that he grew up in one and it was drafty! They sure look nice.

  3. Beautiful buildings all! I knew a friend who wanted to build a round log home...I wonder if she ever did. I'm pretty happy in modern buildings, but am thrilled to see what people used to make.
