A New Squirrel-Proof Feeder

Wild Bird Wednesday

So far the squirrels have not figured out how to get food from this feeder. Give them time; they have nothing better to do!

When this feeder was delivered, I was dismayed by how long it is. It was too large to hang from the poles that we had carefully placed in front of the windows so I can take photos from indoors. We wound up hanging it from a tree, but it's at an angle to the windows so there's usually glare or reflections on the glass.

Today I sat on the deck for a little while, even though the weather was cold. I was able to get pictures of the tufted titmouse, a black-capped chickadee, and a goldfinch.

  1. We are just a little too far north for Tufted Titmouse, but your picture reminds me of just what a delightful little bird it is. I wish I had them coming to my feeders. As for the squirrels figuring out a way to prove that a squirrel-proof feeder isn't, it's just a question of time! I have feeders that are more effective than others against the squirrels, but none seem to confound them totally. Squirrels evoke both admiration and annoyance from me!

  2. Hello,
I was beginning to think there was no such bird feeder that was squirrel proof. Cute birds and photos. I like the new feeder. Take care, enjoy your day!

  5. Glad you could sit outside long enough to capture these beauties. I'll look forward to hearing how the squirrels get into it!
