Springtime at Hollingsworth Mill

Hollingsworth Mill in Winchester is next to the Visitors Center and Wilkins Lake. Here you see the old grinding wheels.

I posted a picture of the mill in 2011. It was built in 1833.

Normally visitors can enter the mill and also tour nearby Abram's Delight, the oldest existing house in the city. Right now these attractions are closed.

"We are closed to the public until further notice. Thank you."
I enjoyed viewing the landscaped grounds and the nearby ponds. The dogwood trees are blooming!

If you go, be sure to walk over to Wilkins Lake. There are usually geese swimming around, and you may be fortunate enough to see a great blue heron. I posted a series of pictures of him on Saturday, and if you missed them, please take a look. He (or she?) is a beautiful and interesting bird.

  1. ...this mill reminds me of the Burwell-Morgan Mill in Millwood, VA, well at least the limestone does. I love to find mills in my travels. Thanks Linda for sharing, take care.

  4. Our forefathers were clever to build dams and mills and grind their grains! So we enjoy the breads still today.
