These deer at Big Meadows are accustomed to people. They won't let you get too close on foot, but if you are in the car, you can get within a few yards from them.
These are Virginia white-tailed deer. Big Meadows is one of the places in Shenandoah National Park where I almost always see them.
The bird pictures are from my yard. The blue jay only visits occasionally. The grackle has iridescent feathers, although he looks black in dim light.
At the feeder are two red-winged blackbirds.
The female cardinal is a pretty olive green and red bird. The male is brilliant red with a black mask.
Our biggest woodpecker is the pileated woodpecker. His red crest is a delight to see.
...many deer back home are no longer wild animals.

ReplyDeleteI can be so jealous of you all who see the P. Woodpecker! And to see it at your own feeder is a double delight!
