Blog Post #6200

Yes, I have posted well over six thousand blog entries. I began blogging in 2005. Sometimes I think I spend too much time on it. But more likely, I spend too much time browsing Facebook!

I did not make specific New Year's Resolutions this year. I rarely do. I suppose it is good to think about such things, and the start of a new year is a good reminder to consider what you'd like to change.

And I would like to change some things. In addition to spending less time on Facebook, I'd like to spend more time being active. It is difficult because I get tired easily and my feet hurt. The physical therapist gave me exercises to do and I really should spend more time on them. I know why I procrastinate on this: exercise is uncomfortable. It not only brings on pain, it forces my attention on physical weaknesses, and I'd rather think about something else, almost anything else!

It's been over a year since foot surgery and I do have less pain. But my ankles are not strong, and when they wobble I am reminded that I have loose ligaments and may never be able to hike more than a short distance. I fear another injury and this protective fear is probably a good thing. The podiatrist said that it was the frequent twisting of my ankles that caused scar tissue and that awful bone spur that made surgery necessary.

On a more hopeful note, I changed my health insurance so that I can see a doctor who may be able to help. The podiatrist is sending my records over to him. Fingers crossed.

  3. I have bad knees that make it painful to walk a long distance, so I understand what you mean. I've been doing certain knee and ankle exercises for the last few months which have been helpful. I'm thinking about being braver and walking for a longer time, if not further, to build up my strength and endurance. Best wishes to you.

  4. I hope the doctor can help you. I have some of the same issues you mentioned except that my problem is with my knees. I wish I could be as active as I once was, but it is difficult to get there.

  5. Linda,

Oh, definitely do the physical therapy to regain control over this problem and your life! I know, it's hard to get motivated and it really begins in the mind where you finally say, "Self...I'm tired of living this way and I'm ready to make a difference!" Find a balance, do what you can while pushing yourself just a little more every time. Eventually, you'll find you are doing more than you ever thought possible. Being active makes me feel younger and better. Hopefully you can get those ligaments strengthen again and the pain will fade away. Unfortunately with body abuse and age we find limitations that we didn't have in our 20s but we certainly can improve the way we feel. Here's to taking charge in 2018 for a healthier and happier life. I'll say a prayer for you. May God's blessings be upon throughout the new year. ;)

  6. Hope your new doctor can help. My sister had foot surgery several years ago and has to be careful with her ankles and feet.

  7. Linda,

How's PT coming along? I hope you're making progress every day. Thanks for leaving the suggestion on my site to check out counter-depth refrigerators. I'm going to do that today! :)

  8. I am sorry to read about your health issues. And I can understand as I am limited as to my ability to get around and the pain I have. I hope you can find something that helps and can enjoy as much as you can...Michelle
