Random-osity at Stribling Orchard

The challenge of fitting a post into the Good, Random and Fun format keeps me on my toes, especially when I've got photos that I want to fit into other blog linkups. Today I'm sharing our visit to Stribling Orchard on Friday. We were exploring Leed's Manor Road from Markham to Hume when we saw the orchard and decided to turn in.

The Good: Fresh apples and pumpkins! The hills of Virginia are known for these crops. Here you can pick your own or buy them from the farm market. The scenery is pretty, and the just-arrived colors of autumn added brightness.

The combined image is for Mosaic Monday. (Click on it to see it larger.)

The Random: Murals are not very common near our town so I was pleased to find this one painted on a wall in the market's restroom. It shows an apple tree and birds, appropriate subjects for an apple orchard. (Sharing with Monday Murals.)

Another random shot is this gray barn which I'm sharing with The Barn Collective.

The Fun: Although I'm too jaded to get a thrill out of hunting down the perfect pumpkin, I enjoyed watching these fellows unload pumpkins from a big carton. At first I felt a little suspense because I wasn't sure the younger man would catch all the pumpkins, but he didn't have a problem, even though they were coming pretty fast.

  2. Thanks Linda for sharing these colors of fall. The pumpkin toss, I wonder if they work their way up to the large ones. Enjoy the fall season and come back again. Tom The Backroads Traveller

  6. I can't believe they're tossing them, though they're not too big. Apples!

  7. I agree with your thoughts on the challenge. I also find it hard sometimes to figure out what to post.

My kitty is doing better but still has a way to go.

  14. Neat mosaics of your visit to the farm. Loved the apples and pumpkins - they are such a great part of fall. Now pumpkin tossing looks like fun but I'd be afraid I would drop them.
