Random Shots, Early Summer

people tubing

It's summer already and the world looks green here! I've got five random topics here for Willy Nilly Friday but they relate to summer, which happens to be the theme of My Town Shoot Out this week.

1. Outdoor fun! The first picture shows some folks reading to go tubing at a boat landing in Front Royal. The South Fork of the Shenandoah is shallow there as long as it's not flooded by recent storms.

2. Outdoor eating! Frank loves ice cream and frozen custard, and hot weather means more little shops are selling it.

3. Sudden storms! Summer storms sometimes start suddenly and pass quickly. This one kept me in Walmart for an extra 15 minutes because I had not carried my umbrella with me. It was a dramatic thunderstorm and left dramatic clouds and wet pavement. I'm sharing this shot with Skywatch Friday.

4. Festivals and Fairs! Last weekend we went to a garden festival at Belle Grove. We bought iris plants and day lilies and a few other things. I photographed the 4-H booth because it hold sentimental value for me. My first job was working to start a 4-H program in Alexandria, Virginia.

geese5. Birds are raising their babies! Goslings and ducklings are being watched over by their parents at the lake. These babies are well-behaved and their parents keep a close eye on them.

These geese have orange beaks so I'm sharing their picture with Orange You Glad It's Friday.
Have a great summer, if that's what it is in your part of the world!

  3. I love the little baby birds. I haven't seen any on our pond this summer, not babies, not adults. Wonder where they are?
