Geese Flying at Sunset

Sometimes when I venture out to take pictures of the sunset I am lucky enough to see the Canada Geese in flight. In the first image they are far away, flying in from somewhere beyond the Massanutten Mountains. You can see them through a break in the clouds to the right of the center of the picture.

Often I can hear them honking before I see them.

  6. Thank you ever so much for sharing the link to your bird post at I'd Rather B Birdin' this weekend!!

Your photos have so much drama with the profiles/silhouettes of the geese against the beautiful sky, I'm lovin' it.

  9. Gorgeous! Reminds me of the Rachel Field poem, "Something Told The Wild Geese."
    Something told the wild geese
    It was time to go,
    Though the fields lay golden
    Something whispered, "snow."

    Leaves were green and stirring,
    Berries, luster-glossed,
    But beneath warm feathers
    Something cautioned, "frost."

    All the sagging orchards
    Steamed with amber spice,
    But each wild breast stiffened
    At remembered ice.

    Something told the wild geese
    It was time to fly,
Summer sun was on their wings,
    Winter in their cry.
