It's Official: GPS Not Advised

State Highway Signage, US 11 and VA 56

Steele's Tavern, VA

"GPS Routing Not Advised"

  1. I saw this sign over the past weekend. What does "GPS routing not advised" actually mean?

  2. It means to ignore the GPS (if you have one) in some circumstances. The GPS device typically advises you to take the shortest route, but it may be unsuitable for trucks or RV's. For instance, some mountain roads have turns that are too sharp for long vehicles. Other roads may have a bridge that's not strong enough for a heavily-loaded truck.

Recently I saw another sign like this on Route 3 near Culpeper, VA.

The View from Squirrel Ridge features thousands of views of the Shenandoah Valley and surrounding area. I post frequently so please visit often.
