The pedestal for the cannon above tells us that it was "used by George Washington in the defence of Fort Loudoun 1756."
In the left-hand photo we see another cannon. This one has an inscription saying: This monument marks the trail taken by the army of General Braddock, which left Alexandria April 9, 1755 to defend the western frontier against the French and Indians.
Erected by the Society of Colonial Dames of America in the State of Virginia, May 27, 1915An inscription on the other side tells us that this cannon was abandoned by General Braddock at old Alexandria 1755.
The cannon and pedestal reminded me of the one on Braddock Road in Alexandria. I looked it up on Historical Marker Database and found that they have the same inscription!
