National Military Park Visitor Center
On our way back from Vandergrift I wanted to stop in Gettysburg, so we headed east on Route 30 at Breezewood, stopping for lunch in Chambersburg, and continuing to Gettysburg. We didn't tour the battlefield because we've done that several times before. (See my Gettysburg field trip.)
I had heard that the new visitor center was marvelous so I wanted to see it while we were in Pennsylvania. It is quite nice, and the centerpiece is the Cyclorama. I enjoyed it's sound and light show more than Frank did because I never saw it before. The painting has been restored to look like new and is quite wonderful! I wish we had been allowed to stay there a little longer, but once the show is over you are only given a few minutes before the lights are dimmed. Then you are ushered out but there are other exhibits to see that tell you the history of the Cyclorama, which was first shown in 1884. If you've never seen it, you should. They've done a great job restoring it and the dramatic presentation is exciting to experience.
