The station building that stands today is not the one that stood in 1864, which was burned by Union troops. The railroad itself was a main reason that a battle happened here. Grant sent Sheridan and his cavalry to destroy the tracks, which would interrupt the food supply that Lee's Army got from the Shenanadoah Valley.
When we were last here (about a decade ago), the replica of Netherlands Tavern (left) did not exist. Already it looks authentically old. You can read about the battle at trevilianstation.org. | |
