The Tiger Swallowtail


This common but pretty butterfly is browsing a butterfly bush.
According to Animal Diversity Web, the tiger swallowtail was the first American insect to be drawn for English viewers; a drawing was sent to England from Sir Walter Raleigh's third expedition to Virginia.
