Heroes on a Giant Apple

The city of Winchester, Virginia lies in apple-growing country in the Shenandoah Valley. It celebrates the apple by having an annual apple blossom festival and by displaying gigantic artsy apples at various locations.

This one has pictures of Confederate General Stonewall Jackson and polar explorer Admiral Richard Byrd. Byrd was born in Winchester. Jackson lived in Winchester briefly during the Shenandoah Valley Campaign.

(While reading about Winchester on Wikipedia, I came across the Shenandoah Commuter Bus website.  This must be the bus a woman told me she takes from Woodstock to DC.)
