Building a split rail fence

I volunteered to help at Park Day at New Market Battlefield. We raked gravel and worked on building a split-rail fence. Men (and Boy Scouts) laid the cedar rails in a zig-zag pattern, row upon row. Then shorter posts are pounded in on each side.



It was interesting to see the fence go up. The photos show the rows of rails before the upright posts are added.
