Every Picture tells a Story

But sometimes it’s hard to read.

This mural can be seen from Wolfe Street in Harrisonburg. It faces the railroad tracks. It is rich in symbols but I don’t know what the artist was trying to say. Any ideas?

Monday Murals 

A signature is on the left and says The Night Owl. I looked that up and found artist Mickael Brock. His story is interesting.

Next to the mural is bakery and then a brew house, which has a creative paint job.

Across the Mountain in Hardy County

West Virginia

Since tomorrow is Memorial Day, I’ll lead with a photo of a cemetery in Wardensville.

The rest of today's scenes are from the Mathias area. The church is Garrets Chapel, located on Clearview Drive not far from the store in today’s final photo which fronts on Route 259.

 

A Pig and Various Birds

Last weekend I visited a farm and saw pigs and chickens. I bought a couple of items from their small store and admired their flowers, which I will show another day.

Yesterday I made a visit to Seven Bends State Park. I saw a couple of domestic birds that were visiting from the property next door. 

I’ve shown pictures of Barney the peacock before. He thinks the park is his domain and he came right up to the car.  When he left the pavement to stroll on the grass, I thought that would make a natural background for a picture. It wasn’t until I viewed the image later that I saw it had been photobombed by a butterfly!

The road from the park crosses the North Fork of the Shenandoah. I spotted a great blue heron and parked to take his picture, but he looks small. I wished I had my Nikon with my because my cell phone does not zoom nearly as well. I have seen him in that spot before so it must be a good fishing spot.

 

On the Final Friday of May

It is a Friday in springtime so of course I have flowers to show. The roses and daylilies were in front of a market in Herndon.

Yesterday I stopped at a house in Woodstock where a woman sells plants from her garage. I bought more than I planned, but they are healthy.

Today Frank volunteered to help me plant them. We pulled weeds from the front garden and then got a few flowers planted before a rain storm arrived. I appreciate the help and I could not have pulled all those weeds by myself.

By the way, the heron in the black and white picture is a garden statue. 

 

 

Trying to Stay Well

One of the “joys” of getting older is you get to meet more doctors and nurses. You need to take care of yourself.

I got my second booster of the Covid-19 vaccine today. And two weeks ago I went to a new medical office to address a couple of concerns, one of which is increased fatigue. This resulted in some tests, one of which is scheduled for June. 

Yesterday I went to another new provider hoping to find an effective treatment for weak ankle ligaments. He does some cutting-edge stuff but did not recommend it in my case. There is an effective surgery but it would mean staying off my feet for weeks, and I have qualms about doing that. Aside from the matter of who would take care of me, I am concerned that not walking would be really bad for my aging bones. 

 

Since I was in the Reston area, I did a bit of shopping at two natural foods stores, so I made the most of the trip. Gas is expensive right now.

Two Different Finches

The goldfinch picture is from a year ago. Doesn't he look fine in his spring plumage?

I think the bird standing on my neighbor's garden torch is a male house finch. What do you think?

 I hope you are staying well. I have started wearing a face mask again when shopping. Covid cases are increasing again in my area.

The Entrance to Clementine’s Patio

I parked in downtown Harrisonburg to visit a gallery and found myself next to a restaurant. There was a mural high on the wall over the patio.

Monday Murals / Mosaic Monday

The mural wraps around the side but part of it is covered by trumpet vines . We can see the covered part in a post I shared in  early 2016.

 

Views around Fulks Run

 These scenes are along Little Dry River Road and Brocks Gap Road. I followed a sign to see Grace Baptist Church.

  

The Fulks Run Post Office shares a building with a lumber yard. I've driven past it several times without noticing it on the way to West Virginia on Route 259.

This is a scenic area and one of the few ways to enter West Virginia without going over a mountain.

Fields and Fence Posts

The first picture shoes a farm near Mathias. The barn quilt has been added since we were there in 2018.

Saturday Critters: The rest of today’s images are from Edinburg and Woodstock. All of them are cell phone photos.

The sheep and horse were in fields along Ox Road. The sweet couple in a tree are cardinals, and the red bird on a post is also a cardinal.

A Warm Afternoon in Harrisonburg.

Today was warm and tomorrow is supposed to be hotter. I want to Harrisonburg to shop and take some pictures.
