The Good: There was a special event at Kernstown Battlefield Park in Winchester this weekend. It was a nice day and many folks were enjoying the living history. In the museum I found this mural depicting an 1862 illustration of the First Battle of Kernstown.

Your post reminds me how different our relationship to historical events can be. Being a Westerner the Civil War is a less vivid event compared to folks in the East who can walk the battlefields near their towns. Sobering, isn't it.

The re-enactment is a good way for young people to learn about it too.
