By a Pond Beside a Road
I didn’t take very many pictures on yesterday‘s Garden Week tour because interior photography is not allowed, and we were asked to not take pictures of the exterior of private residences. The building that you see here is an inn, originally built as a residence in 1789 and enlarged in 1840.

Ha, if people ask me not to photograph, I will usually leave on the spot.
ReplyDeleteIt seems contrary to the spirit of the visit if you can’t take photographs.
ReplyDeleteTerrific view of the pond.
ReplyDelete...I agree with David.
ReplyDeleteThinking about a building standing since 1789 makes me feel a profound sense of connection to the past; it is moving to imagine all the lives that have passed through those doors over the centuries. Beautiful photos. You are invited to read the latest blog post at https://www.melodyjacob.com/
ReplyDeletePretty views of the pond and flowers.
ReplyDeleteTake care, Happy Friday! Have a great weekend.
So sorry your visit couldn't include photos...I imagine they would have been most interesting!
ReplyDeleteThere are a couple of reasons that photos are not allowed in the buildings. One is traffic flow — no one wants to stand in line while influencers take selfies. Another other is security — don’t advertise your belongings to potential thieves,
ReplyDeleteProbably a popular pond in the summer months!
ReplyDeletePleasant first picture.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an old building but very pretty, have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to Virginia in a number of years. I miss your Historic Garden Week. I can understand why the no photography rule exists but there was so much beauty in the two times I attended I found it very frustrating not to be able to have the visual memories. ReplyDeleteI remember going on a house tour in Clifton, Virginia one year. It was very interesting to see how people decorated their homes and gardens and didn't mind you looking at them. I can't remember what the photo situation was, but I think it must have been the same as you experienced as I don't remember taking photos.
ReplyDeleteWell, you stayed within the rules and still got good photos.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I don't understand the rules but if agree to them then I live by them. I don't want to be that guy.
You had a lovely time without breaking the rules. You came. You saw. You left with dynamite photos to post on the blog any way. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI love the beautiful shade of Iris , the view is so stunning. Thanks for sharing with Garden Affair.
ReplyDeleteYou did get some lovely shots.
