Charlie, Some Helpers, and Some Bugs
It’s been a challenging week because I’m still in pain from the fall I took, Plus I’m still unable to lift very much or even walk Charlie. Fortunately, my sister-in-law has walked him a number of times, and Lynn came yesterday and took care of Charlie and also did some chores that I could not do.
Lynn cut some nuisance plants, including some small trees that had come up in my backyard garden. She saw some insects that she thought were spotted lantern flies, an invasive pest that is fairly new to our area. I did not recognize them because I’m only familiar with the adult ones. It turns out that these are in stages three and four of their lifecycle.
She removed the plants that attracted them. Hopefully they’ll leave, but I probably should alert my neighbors.
I’ll with a picture of Charlie looking out the door as Deborah arrives to take him for a morning walk. He’s always excited to see her.

Spotted Lanternfly is very attractive but represents a threat to some commercial crops, particularly grape vines. When wine production is threatened that’s serious!
ReplyDeleteHello Linda,
ReplyDeleteI am glad you have help with Charlie and with your chores. We have seen the Lantern Fly here too, we have been killing any that we see. Cute photos of Charlie. I hope you feel better, sending healing prayers. Thank you for linking up and sharing your critter post.
Take care, have a great day and happy week. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
We have never heard of lanternflies. They look quite pretty, actually. We hope you are feeling better, We kitties are purring for you.
ReplyDelete...don't be bugged.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you're aching from a fall. That's no fun at all, and recovery sure cuts into our lives!! And Charlie's too. Glad you have some helpers...we all need them. My best helper is going to Cumberland Gap for 4 days...so I must behave myself!
ReplyDeleteBecause the lanternflies are pretty, people mistakenly tolerate them. They are spreading in many places, which won’t be good for gardens, vineyards, or agriculture. They weaken plants, though do not necessarily kill them. Advice I have seen is that you should squash them if you find any.
ReplyDeleteLove that pic of Charlie waiting for his walkies!
ReplyDeleteIt is good that you have help with Charlie and with your chores.
ReplyDeleteI do like your last photograph showing Charlie waiting for Deborah.
All the best Jan
It sounds like you've been through it this week.
ReplyDeleteHe's such a sweetheart but I'm glad you have some help with him and some of your chores. What a good friend you are and how nice to have those that care about you...and Charlie! Take care and get better soon!
