This mural was a group effort under artist Isaiah Zagar. He was assisted by citizens including children, who placed many tiles and mirrors in designs to create a mosaic mural. Another mural was done the same way in downtown Charles Town.
Here are three close-up shots. I'm afraid I cannot do justice to this work of art. It takes a lot of looking to really see it.

There are also a couple of painted murals there. I believe they are older than the mosaic.
What an incredible find, Linda. I enlarged the photos and stared for quite awhile. You see something new each time you look at it. The tiles are simply out of this world and so well put together.
ReplyDeleteThat palm tree looks wonderful, albeit a bit out of place for W.VA. (grin). Still, I like it a lot, because I love palm trees.
The last mural looks like it may have seen better days, although it may just be my imagination. You found some amazing murals this week.
I like this kind of street art - our local swimming pool as one like this.

Beautiful murals! It would be interesting to do a walking tour to see all of them. I like the fact that Isaiah Zagar leads workshops so that local neighbourhood children and adults are involved and the murals reflect the identity of that area.
ReplyDeleteGreat find Linda, a lot of work has gone into it, lots to discover and I'm glad the community was involved. Thanks for participating.
ReplyDelete...it would have been fun to work of the mosaic.
ReplyDeleteHello, the murals are beautiful. I love the mosaic tiles. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteGreat set of murals. The on of mosaic tiles is amazing and I'm sure it took a lot of time and effort by everyone involved!

Goodness the mosaic mural is a huge endeavour Linda, lovely to think it brought the community together while they created it 💙
ReplyDeleteThe kids who made that mural must have had a lot of fun. I have seen many murals done by school art classes, and they have a lot of wonderful creative energy.

Wonderful murals, and I think how the community of "artists" will remember their part in creating them.
ReplyDeleteThe murals are always fun to see...it's amazing to realize how many talented people we have in every city or town!
ReplyDeleteLinda - I love when kids are involved in these sorts of projects! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday so faithfully!
ReplyDeleteThe mosaic is quite different.
ReplyDeleteFantastic to see all of these Linda, and so nice that the community has been involved.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
The mosaic mural is beautiful. That must have taken quite a lot of creative group effort.
