Perched on the woodpecker block is a yellow-bellied sapsucker.
The next two pictures show deer along Skyline Drive at Dickey Ridge. Facilities there are closed due to the government shutdown, but you can still enter the northern section of the park to see the views or take a hike. I did not see any trash or blatant misbehavior like what is being reported in some of the western National Parks.
A sweet goldfinch is perched in the today's final photo. I'm sharing this post with Saturday Critters and I'd Rather Be Birdin'.
Hello Linda. The blue jays looks so beautiful. The woodpecker is awesome. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Oh, Linda! I'm always green with envy that y'all have those beautiful blue jays in your area! They're not here in my neck of the woods. Great critter photos today!
ReplyDeleteWe, at I'd Rather B Birdin, enjoyed your post this week...thanks for linking in.
I love the photo of the bird flapping its wings to fly up. I always enjoy deer photos also. Glad to hear the report of people behaving themselves in the National Park area.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful animals!

Great pictures! Unplanned or not, the picture of the blue jay about to fly up is awesome!
ReplyDeleteBluejays are such pretty birds...not always a nice personality, though. We used to hear them here quite a bit, and we still here them every now and then, but not near as often.
ReplyDeleteLovely set of photos well done. Take care Diane
ReplyDeleteLovely birds! Sure hope the shutdown ends before the bad stuff spreads to your area. (I’ve heard that part of the destruction and mess in some of the NPs is because there is nobody to maintain the bathroom facilities.). Our paper says volunteers are doing the Everglades.... that’s good, but not OK permanently.
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to see the birds and deer.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
