My Town Shoot Out challenged us to show "Your Town's Forests and Woods" this week and I have plenty of them. Here is the Shenandoah Valley we are surrounded by hills and mountains covered with forests, and within a half hour I can be in George Washington National Forest or Shenandoah National Park or a state park or one of many county parks. That's one of my favorite things about this area!
The first three pictures show winter in Shenandoah National Park. Snowfall is late this year although they've had some ice, but I haven't been up there on a really cold day yet.
A path through the woods can be very inviting! This arboretum path looks quite civilized. Up on the mountains we find some rougher trails, however, some of them so rocky that you must watch every step so you don't turn an ankle.
The woods are home to many animals and birds. In the winter we mostly see squirrels, birds, and deer.
