Calvary Church was open for tours during Historic Garden Week in Virginia. I was delighted by the high beamed ceiling and the beautiful stained glass windows. There's also a very pleasant walled garden.
It's said that during the Civil War the church was used to stable horses and also served as a military hospital. This was not unusual — a similar indignity was pressed upon St. Thomas Chapel in Middletown and the little church in Waterlick. In fact, after large battles, almost every public building and many homes in some towns became a temporary hospital!
A lovely church both inside and out. Very nice stained glass.
