The Old Rockland School House
This old-time school is on Rockland Road near Front Royal. Now an antique shop, it was still a one-room school in the 1960's. The store has a display of photos from when it was a school.
The hand-operated pump would have supplied water.

I like that old water pump. Pretty cool pictures!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's incredible! I love that it was still a school, into the 60's.
ReplyDeleteIt was good to learn in this school.

They sre keep that old school in good condition and it makes a great picture.
ReplyDeleteThe outdoor pump was exactly like our pump. We had an outdoor toilet for the boys and another for the girls -- each located on opposite ends of the 2-room brick school building. When I went there only the little room was being used. And in all 8 grades, taught by one teacher, Miss Beatrice Brown, there were only 23 students in grades 1 through 8.
ReplyDeleteOh it's ever so cute!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool piece of history! It's interesting to think that if I lived nearby, that would have been my school! We had a new facility with flushing toilets and everything!
ReplyDeletereally cute! glad it's still being used!
