Spring Flowers and a Red Dress Mural

We have more than daffodils blooming now. Forsythia is flowing down slopes in yellow blossoms.  I've also seen crocus, snowdrops, and even flowering trees.

Monday Murals: This predominately red mural is in Cardinal Forest Plaza, Fairfax County. No doubt the red feathers and garment represent the northern cardinal, a theme also seen in another mural around the corner in the same shopping center. 

 

East of Edinburg

There was a sign pointing down a side road to a church so I decided to drive out and take a picture for the weekly church photo linkup.

I found the Waterbrook Brethren Church, a substantial brick building with mountain views. It does not look very old. 

To return to town, I drove past Creekside Campground and crossed Stoney Creek on a small bridge.

Shenandoah National Park is a special place and I miss it during the winter weeks when they close the road due to ice and snow. When it's open, I like to drive up there every week or two.

I usually see deer unless the park is crowded with visitors or the weather is unusually bad. Since I'm retired, I can go during the week when it is quiet.

I've seen deer on Dickey Ridge so many times that I suspect I'm seeing some individuals over and over, but it's hard to say.

What Season Is This Anyway?

March is known for fickle weather. I have to check the forecast before I get dressed in the morning so I know whether to wear winter clothes or something lighter.

The daffodils survived the snow that we had on Saturday.

Today is Friday and I'd like to catch up on my pictures a bit. Let me show you a few things that caught my eye, starting with a night shot.

Lynn and I went to Luray on the day that my living room was being painted. We were near her friend Pat's house so we paid a surprise visit. Pat lives by the south fork of the Shenandoah. She enjoys a lovely view of the river.

I went to a homeowners' association meeting on Tuesday evening and it was across from the Brewhouse.

The daytime picture of a street scene in Woodstock needed  a little straightening. Then I discovered a fisheye setting on the SKRWT app ... see the final picture.

The Studio Shop and the next scene are in Strasburg. The blue bus is not far from there.

The writing on the gas pump could be just about anywhere. A certain class of people want to blame Biden for everything.

Yesterday in Waynesboro

I met Lynn in Waynesboro and we looked at a house because I’m looking for an investment property. Unfortunately, it needed major renovation. However, I found this mural at the Fire Department.

The house we looked at was next to a nice park.

Lynn doesn't like posing but she agreed to lean on the car and I took some iPhone pictures using Portrait mode. I like this one.

On the way home I stopped briefly at the arboretum in Harrisonburg and took a few pictures by the parking lot.

"Garber's Church is the oldest continuously used Brethren meetinghouse in Virginia. It is estimated that the first services by the Brethren in the Dayton-Bridgewater area date back to around 1790. This was about the time that Rev. Daniel Garber and his brother-in-law, John Wampler, moved into the Dayton area. The Garber and Wampler families, along with other families, built up the Cooks Creek Congregation, a body of worshipping Brethren. They would worship in the homes of members located in the Dayton, Bridgewater, and Beaver Creek area. By 1822, the congregation grew so large that Garber's Church of the Brethren was built. In 1880, Cooks Creek Congregation had 300 members, mostly adults. Garber's is the "mother church" to other Brethren churches in the area. The known branches of the mother church in 1900 were: Garbers, Dayton, Bridgewater, Pleasant Run, Hinton Grove, Cedar Grove (Brandywine, WV), Smith Creek (WV) and North Fork (WV)."

The Weather Changed.

Yesterday was so warm I sat on the deck and enjoyed the sunshine. I watched a flock of birds land in a tree. They may have been starlings but I am not sure.

This morning I looked out and viewed a snowy scene. We had strong winds from time to time so the only time I went outside was to get the mail. 

Can you see a flat bird feeder in the black and white photo? I zoomed in on it with my Nikon. A slate-colored junco made itself comfortable in the feeder and was eating black thistle seeds.

Saturday's Critters / The Bird D'Pot

It looks like Spring but it’s not.

We've enjoyed several warm days lately and today was sunny. I sat outside without a coat for a while. 

Yet a snowstorm is expected early tomorrow morning! Some folks call this "pneumonia weather" because it stresses out the body, potentially weakening its defenses.

Garden Post #740: After the rain stopped the other day, I took some pictures of crocuses and daffodils with raindrops still clinging to them.

Yesterday started out rainy and after it stopped, the clouds were lifting.

Lynn and Travis came over this afternoon and she spotted a hot air balloon in the sky. Travis is painting my living room.
