Backyard Birds, Mid-April

American robins have been hopping all over my neighborhood. They don’t visit the feeders because they prefer hunting for food on the ground.

There hasn’t been anything new at the feeders. A female cardinal and a grackle have been monopolizing the food.

  1. I love that grackle! It seems to know the camera is there. I've never seen a cardinal.

  2. The robins generally prefer feeding on the ground, but in my yard they balance precariously and peck on the suet feeders.

  3. ...it rained last night and the robins are searching for worms this morning.

  4. Our grounds have been sterilized by the landscapers, so there are few bugs or worms around for robins. They do fly around here but don't stay for long.
