Glass Mural at Winchester Medical Center

Monday Murals

This beautiful stained glass mural was created by artist Sallie Ebert. When I was in the Medical Center ten days ago, I saw a sign to the chapel and ducked in to see if there was any stained glass. (I’m an art lover, and religion has inspired a lot of great art.) I was delighted to see this in the entry hall, but I struggled to get a picture of it because the opposite wall was only a few feet away.

This image is a composite of two pictures that I took with my phone. I also took a panoramic version but it is hopelessly curved and I failed to make it presentable even with using the SKRWT app to try to straighten it.

As I get older, it seems like I am constantly going to a medical provider for something. Right now, many people I know are going through this, and some have conditions much more serious than mine. We often wait for weeks or months to see a doctor because they are so busy! I was blaming this on being in a rural area, but I’ve talked to people in cities who are dealing with similar delays. There is a shortage of medical personnel, and it doesn’t help that baby boomers are retiring.

If you or your loved one is dealing with a medical problem, I hope you find the strength and support that you need. There is a life force that sustains all beings. May we help one another and give others the care and respect that they deserve.

    1. Hmm..I can't believe it took my comment, most of the time it will not. So since I am on a roll, let me say, that is a lovely thought you posted at the end of this.

    2. The main OR, the upper level entrance not the Surgicenter.

  2. My brother in law said when I got 50. From now on you will probably feel a pain somewhere everyday. And if you don't you are probably dead. Better laugh with it.

  4. Many of your medical professionals are moving north of the border. There is a veritable flood of nurses and doctors taking up residence here.

  5. Having recently lost my general practitioner, I know of shortage of good doctors. And this reflects our local medical providers being swallowed up by big corporations wanting profits, including the Asheville hospital. Loved seeing the stained glass, and you did well to stitch together two shots.

  6. Sorry to hear of your health issues Linda. I'm in Portugal at the moment with my parents, my Mom has been diagnosed with breast cancer at almost 88 years! She too suffers with the lack of Doctors. She called the medical centre for an urgent appointment and was given one for a month and a half later!! Luckily she has the Srs email and sent him the result of her biopsy and he must have requested to see her the same day, as she got a call from the centre shortly after. You found a lovely stained glass mural. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Linda.

  7. The stained glass art is beautiful.

It seems that many countries have a shortage of medical/health care staff.

I do like the thought you included at the end of this post.

    All the best Jan
