The City Daily Photo Theme for August 1st is "Sweets." Here we see the candy aisle in a grocery store. The entire aisle isn’t candy, though. This display is followed by pancake syrup and then pancake mix. I’m not sure what comes after that. The other side of the aisle is devoted to breakfast cereal.
I actually don’t buy any of this candy. I do buy some dark chocolate covered nuts, but they have they to be dairy-free, and this supermarket does not have that kind. I learned long ago that I only tolerate sugar if it’s combined with protein and fat. Otherwise, it gives me reflux. For a number of years, I didn’t eat any sugar at all, but that changed after I moved out of the city and could no longer buy a full selection of natural foods.
It's so interesting that the candy aisle is next to pancake syrup. I think it's smart you know what works for your body with sugar and that you stick to dairy-free dark chocolate covered nuts.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, if the pancake syrup is not maple syrup to me it could make sense that it is with the candy because it is sugar and not healthy. However if it is pure maple 🍁 syrup, it makes no sense to me because maple syrup, although sweet, is healthy.
ReplyDeleteI have a weakness for dark chocolate 🫠
ReplyDeleteNot stuff we ever buy. We used to buy dark chocolate once in a while, 85% cocoa, but stopped doing it because of warnings against eating what would otherwise be a healthy product. Something to do with metal, I forget the exact reason.
ReplyDelete...candy is getting expensive!
ReplyDeleteI have a small stock of dark chocolate always, and when the mood strikes will break off a square. It is tasty and somehow just saved for special times. The high fructose corn syrup used in candy these days is off-putting, except occasionally, like Halloween and Easter, and maybe Christmas goodies. Good for you knowing what your body likes and is healthiest to eat.
ReplyDeletesweets and candy are a luxury for the palate. my husband has a sweet tooth and he never shies away from a sweet treat!!
ReplyDeleteI eat dark chocolate once in a while and avoid the rest.
ReplyDeleteI buy dark chocolate from these aisles.
