September Sunflowers

When Strasburg blogger Dawn mentioned that there is a field of sunflowers behind the Woodbine Farm Market, I drove up there to check it out. The flowers are not as tall or as in some years, but they are still bright and sunny-looking.

There were some young women taking pictures. I caught them in my car's side mirror.

Here's the tree line that I could see to the left.
Black and White Weekend, Skywatch Friday
When a sunflower gets heavy with seeds, it turns downward as though mourning the end of summer.

A few years ago we had great weather for sunflowers. Here are some people taking advantage of a pick-your-own sunflower field.

That one had a rail fence nearby. The picture looked plain to me so I brightened it in Photoshop. The filter is "Dry Brush."

  7. I love sunflowers and we grow them in our community garden and use them in bouquets. Your first shot, especially, highlights the lovely sun angle we get in September and October. I enjoyed the "bowed" shot. Mourning the end of summer indeed. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  22. Thanks for the shout out. i'm so glad they planted these. I wish they had lasted a little longer but a serious rainstorm really beat them down and thy never actually recovered. Life is like that. It reminds me to be more resilient than a sunflower. :)
