Love and Recycling.
If we park at the Strasburg Town Hall and cross this little bridge, we find ourselves in a small park where events are held.
A "LOVE" sign has been installed but from an angle you can't see the "O." That's because it is actually the front of a large pipe.
If you haven't been to Virginia, you probably don't realize that there are many versions of the LOVE sign in various places around the state. They are an offshoot of the slogan "Virginia is for Lovers," which was adopted for an advertising campaign in 1969 and has been in use ever since.
I've posted pictures of LOVE signs before, including ones in Orkney Springs, Culpeper, and Rappahannock County.
I'm posting a photo of the recycling center to say that Shenandoah County has stopped recycling many forms of plastic. They still accept plastic bottles, but they no longer have a contractor that will take other plastic containers.
I won't miss washing out yogurt containers and salad trays, but it is sad that the landfill will fill up with this junk. The consumer does not have a choice unless the stores offer other options, and in a rural area, choices are limited.
Today I recycled plastic bags and related thin plastics at the grocery store. I also took two huge bags of inflated plastic bubbles to the Postal Business Center in Front Royal for reuse.
The "Feed Me" sign is on a trash container in a burger place. "But no trays please. They just don't taste good."
Our final sign for today was in front of the lumber and hardware store.
"Wood working minus patience
Equals firewood."
...I've made a lot of firewood in my days! LOVE your love sign, thanks Linda for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHello, love the first shadow shot and the love sign. Enjoy your day! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteOur recycling vendor has problems, like most of them these days...sorting out the plastic, cardboard, aluminum and glass.
ReplyDeleteI like that bridge.
ReplyDeleteMy favourites are the first shadow shot and the love sign :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
lovely photos greetings from Poland
ReplyDeleteHow cool to find the LOVE signs all around! We are having some hiccups in our local recycling, too, but I hope they are fixed soon.
ReplyDeleteFeel free to share at My Corner of the World
I like the LOVE sign. It reminds me of the lyrics to an old song, "What the world needs now is love, sweet love
ReplyDeleteIt's the only thing that there's just too little of."
