Engagement at Cool Spring

On a field trip last year we visited Holy Cross Abbey, the site of the Battle of Cool Spring. At the time, I did not purchase the small book about that event, but I saw it recently at our library's book sale and purchased it. It's called Civil War Engagement at Cool Spring July 18, 1864 (The Largest Battle Ever fought in Clarke County, Virginia) and it was written by a monk at the abbey, Peter J. Meaney. In 2006 he died but his research papers about the battle are safely housed at the Handley Library in Winchester.Below: Scenery at Holy Cross Abbey

I wrote a brief review to submit as homework for my Civil War class and also posted it on Amazon. I gave the book 5 stars because it was interesting and very well done.
